Rewire a Vintage Entry Lantern

You can easily rewire a vintage entry lantern yourself. These handcrafted fixtures can be found in garage sales and secondhand shops. The process is straightforward and is a great way to propagate an antique style. You can also rewire vintage lanterns that were made decades ago. Read on to learn how to rewire a vintage entry lantern and create a stylish lighting fixture. This article covers several methods for rewiring lanterns.

To rewire a vintage entry lantern, start by removing the lamp cord. The wire must be at least six inches longer than the lamp’s length. This will enable you to remove the old wire when you finish. Otherwise, you’ll have to worry about the length of the wire, which will make it difficult to work with. If the wire is too short, you’ll have to snip it.

After removing the wires, wrap the color cord with electrical tape. Pull the covering off and then use a wire cutter with a hook-like slicer inside. Cut the outer cord to expose the inner wires. You can then thread the exposed wires into the light. Make sure to make sure the wires are completely dry before hanging them. If the lantern is on a ceiling, it might need a light shield or a canopy.

First, you need to remove the lamp cord. This wire is the neutral wire. It should have markings on it or a raised ridge. Connect the neutral wire to the silver screw of the replacement socket. Afterward, the hot wire is the opposite: it should be smooth and devoid of markings. After this, wrap the wires around the socket screws in a clockwise direction. Once you are done with this process, return the socket to the fixture housing. Thread the remaining wire through the fixture arm and into the main body.
